WHY BROKERAGE REWARDS THE BOLD
There is an often mistaken perception that real estate is a fast and easy money business. Experienced insiders know this is far from the truth. Sales as a profession is difficult and the role of a broker is no different.
Real estate is a constantly evolving industry where the majority of brokers start each year without any base salary – only the confidence in their ability to succeed. That same success requires profound dedication, passion, and true market expertise.
Leaving a conference last week and interacting with some of the best in the business, here are a few observations surrounding those leading our industry.
Making Yourself Memorable
The formula of telling everybody how great you are, how innovative your state-of-the-art solutions may be, or your commitment to customer service, just won’t cut it anymore. The top professionals understand this and have found a way to tell their story in a unique way, to stir emotion, demonstrate true expertise and execute with consistency year after year. No secrets here – this includes messaging in social media, video, creative print, and where they ultimately spend their time. They just do it all better than the rest!
Being Prepared to Compete & Win
Success, however you choose to define it, is achievable if the right habits and mindset are established. The best in real estate wake up every morning fully prepared to compete and win. They have a specific vision, business plan and related action items in place that creates accountability in all areas including client development, retention, time management – and yes, marketing, and public relations. Luck has nothing to do with it.
Cultivating Relationships Requires Self-Investment
Success as a broker also requires significant self-investment. Besides the demanding work required to maintain a steady production, it also requires hefty financial investments in one’s career. The highest income producers in any marketplace invest substantial amounts of capital back into their business to fuel growth – including travel, education, technology, networking, and more. They budget for it and implement accordingly.
Trailblazing Brokers Reap the Rewards
Starting off each year at zero, with no form of base salary is intimidating. This profession is not for everyone. Understandably, people who desire more security and regularity will be uncomfortable with this thwarting aspect of the job.
However, for those who have the grit to make it happen year after year, the opportunity to make extraordinary income without restraints is endless.
No matter how the industry changes, one thing is set to remain true – real estate will always reward the bold trailblazers. Those with a fearless mindset, client centric focus, and integrity will continue to dominate the landscape in the years to come.
My hope is that we will continue to find new and creative ways to engage and mentor the next generation to ensure their success as well.
